SEMIYA BIRIYANI(NON VEG)

As told in my last post,today am going to post a  yummy non veg recipe SEMIYA BIRIYANI..(you can substitute the mutton with veggies of your choice to  make yummy veg biriyani)
Yes  it is  a twist to your usual biriyani...
 You r going to substitute your rice with vermicelli in the mutton biriyani and it is equally delicious as its counterpart mutton biriyani....
It is a yummy recipes which goes well with raita....
So here we go....

Preparation Time: under 15 mins   
Cooking Time: under 35 mins

Ingredients Needed:

  1. Ghee - 1 tbsp
  2. Oil - 1 tbsp or as needed
  3. Vermicelli/Semiya - 350gms (roasted- get the plain vermicelli and roast it till golden brown by adding a little ghee)
  4. Mutton - 200gms
  5. Onion - 1 big ,chopped
  6. Tomato - 2 medium,chopped
  7. Ginger garlic paste - 2 tbsp 
  8. Green chillies - 2 ,slited
  9. Coriander leaves - 1 tbsp,chopped
  10. Pudina leaves - 1 tbsp,chopped
  11. Garam masala powder( i use the homemade one )- 1/2 tsp( can add a little  more at the end  if needed)
  12. Whole garam masala -( cardamom -2,cinnamom stick- a 1"piece,cloves- 3)
  13. Redchilly powder - 1/2tsp (i have added too little coz my kids don prefer too spicy,can add a little      more if   needed)
  14. Sambhar onions(optional) - 5 to 6, crushed
  15. Lemon juice - 2 tsp
  16. Curd(optional) - 1 tsp(add only if needed orelse it will become too sour)
  17. Salt -  as needed

Preparation :

  • Heat oil and ghee together  in a pressure cooker.Add the whole garam masala.
  • Then add the onions and fry until they become translucent,add the ginger garlic paste and fry until they start sticking to the bottom.
  • Add tomato,coriander leaves,green chillies and pudina.Cook till the tomatoes are done.
  • Now add the garam masala powder and chilly powder.
  • Then add the mutton,curd, lemon juice and salt(as needed).Stir for few seconds.
  • Add little water(measure the water before you add) and close the lid.
  • Pressure cook till the mutton is done.(after a whistle i used to put it on slow flame for 8 to 10 mins)
  • After the pressure is released open the cooker, check how much water is there.
  • Now measure the roasted vermicelli in a cup ,for 1 cup of vermicelli add 11/4 cup of water (include the water in the gravy).
  •  Add the water to the gravy and let it boil.
  • Then now add the vermicelli to this,cook in a low flame till done.Keep stirring now and then to prevent it from sticking to the cooker.
  • Now put off the flame, close the lid and leave it to rest for few mins.
  • Serve with raita.
